our nation

Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation (BOCN) is a forward‑looking and close‑knit Nation that takes pride in caring for one another. Sovereign under kisê‑manitow and a signatory to Treaty No. 6, we prioritize community‑led governance grounded in accountability and transparency, guided by our ancestors’ visions.

We, nîpisîhkopâwiyiniwak (Willow Cree people), are members of the nêhiyawak (Plains Cree Nation) and speakers of nêhiyawêwin. Our territory spans the North and South Saskatchewan river region and beyond. BOCN sits beside the original Treaty No. 6 signing site at Fort Carlton and near Batoche and Duck Lake—places central to the making of what is now Saskatchewan and Canada, including the story of Almighty Voice, and Louis Riel’s Resistance of 1885.

message from
the chief

I want to take a moment to speak directly to our community about the path forward for Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation. Clear communication is an important part of that work. This website is being developed as a central place where members can stay informed about community updates, programs, events, Chief and Council initiatives, and opportunities that affect our Nation. Whether it’s housing, economic development, community gatherings, or important notices, this platform will help ensure information is accessible and transparent. We encourage all members to visit the site regularly, stay connected, and be involved.

Ekosi,

Edwin Ananas
